During an acupuncture treatment, the acupuncturist first conducts an initial assessment, including palpation, observation, and discussion, in order to fully understand the issue and choose strategies and interventions tailored to each patient. The patient is then positioned comfortably for the insertion of the needles. Most patients find that the needles are not painful, though they may sometimes cause a slight tingling sensation.
